Madness and Spirituality: Entering the Sanctuary of Impossible Love

  • Boulder Center for Conscious Community (BC3) 1637 28th Street Boulder, CO, 80301 United States (map)

Day-long sanctuary on the intersectionality of mental health and spirituality, led by Chris Cole, podcast host of Waking Up Bipolar and author of The Body of Chris.

Explore the connection between mental health and spiritual emergence, as you:

  • Participate in an open, compassionate dialogue about the personal, social, and spiritual implications of mental health crisis, interventions, and ongoing challenges.

  • Receive guided instruction in simple breathing, yoga, and meditation practices that can be done anywhere and that support working with extreme states.

  • Learn about contemporary, progressive views on mental health challenges, conventionally thought of as “psychiatric disorders,” but also referred to as mad, extreme, neurodivergent, and/or non-ordinary states.

The term "madness" includes not only the bipolar experience, but also other challenging states, such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. To reveal the transformative potential of "psychiatric disorders," these states will be explored through the view of what transpersonal psychology calls spiritual emergency.

This workshop is open to the public, inviting a diverse array of experience and wisdom. If you have questions about whether this workshop is right for you or a loved one, please email Chris at
